Under direct supervision, provides speech-language pathology services for pediatrics through geriatrics with communication and/or swallowing disorders according to the CFY requirements. Provides in-patient and out-patient clinical services in all areas and units.

Education

Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited college or university.

  • Thorough knowledge of the Code of Ethics as set forth by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.
  • Skill in written and oral communication.
  • Ability to administer, score and interpret standardized speech, language, swallowing, voice and cognitive tests in order to delineate patient deficit, establish diagnosis, develop treatment plans and document progress.

State of Maryland License in Speech-Language Pathology

Physical Requirements

Clinical conditions require the ability to frequently push/pull more than 50 pounds and to occasionally lift objects more than 50 pounds as related to positioning a wheelchair patient.

Working Conditions

Office conditions. Exposure to radiation in acceptable amounts as monitored by a qualified laboratory. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conducts patient (re)evaluation utilizing clinical assessment, modified barium swallow and standardized speech-language assessment tools, within the full scope of SLP licensure and skill/clinical knowledge base. Consults with his/her CFY supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Develops and implements patient treatment plan according to established departmental procedures and under the direct supervision of his/her CFY supervisor. Consults with other professionals and physicians regarding the patient’s treatment and initiates appropriate referrals. Observes changes in patient status, and reactions and responses for treatment modification, as appropriate. Accurately documents change in patient condition/status in medical record.
  • Effectively and efficiently documents all clinical activity in accordance with service, program, hospital and professional practice guidelines and in a timely manner. Contributes to the enhancement of clinical documentation processes within the service, program and/or hospital.
  • Maintains clinical equipment and materials. Provides input to the team for the development or purchase of diagnostic and treatment materials.
  • Participates in the development of staff competencies and training activities as assigned.
  • Participates in hospital interdisciplinary conferences and rounds.

Pay Range

$27.32 - $44.80. Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
