Job Summary
Performs daily workflow management of the section with minimal supervision. Responsible for training and competency assessments of new LTAs and phlebotomy students. Collaborates to monitor phlebotomy reports for timely service. May perform duties of LTA, Phlebotomist, and/or CLA as needed for patient care, including finding coverage when necessary.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Phlebotomy and lab experience required
- Phlebotomy Training program graduate preferred
- Minimum skills/abilities
- Commitment to ongoing skill development through available resources
- Participation in staff meetings and training
- Assist in orientation and mentoring of staff
- Perform analytical and decision-making tasks independently
- Recognise when to seek assistance
- Understand hospital and departmental policies, including safety
- Awareness of hospital programs/services and locations
- Certification/Licensure
- Phlebotomy Certification preferred; ASCP certification/eligibility within a year
Job Responsibilities
- Train new LTAs and students; maintain competency checklists
- Coordinate and oversee activities of LTAs on shifts
- Distribute work and liaise with other departments
- Demonstrate advanced skills in specimen collection and troubleshooting
- Manage specimen flow and use LIS devices proficiently
- Review specimen reports regularly and document in Meditech
- Perform all duties of an LTA proficiently
- Handle specimen processing and referral procedures
- Maintain inventory and recordkeeping
- Adhere to safety policies and participate in safety training
- Ensure quality and compliance in laboratory operations
- Perform other duties as assigned, respecting diversity and professionalism
