What You'll Do
As a Lead AI Tech Architect, you will work closely with clients to understand their issues, define IT strategies and architecture solutions, secure buy-in for your recommendations, and collaborate with fellow BCGers to transform client potential into performance. In this role, you will primarily support core banking and financial services clients, bringing deep domain expertise to help shape technology strategies, modernise architecture, and deliver business transformation across complex banking environments. You will be given end-to-end responsibility for larger, highly technical and more complex modules within a project, while continuing to build specialised expertise to solve clients' most critical challenges. You will start to take on team leadership responsibilities and demonstrate intellectual leadership. You will also help guide junior members of the team, help with project proposals, client care and building relationships with peers. Finally, as a Lead AI Tech Architect, you will contribute to the Practice Area development and help to build the BCG brand as a key member of the case team.
What You'll Bring
Essential Experience
- 10+ years' proven experience as a Lead Technology, Solution or Enterprise Architect within Financial Services, with significant experience designing and delivering Core Banking transformation programmes, gained through consulting and/or client-facing roles.
- Proven experience designing and delivering modern architectures, with a strong understanding of scalability, resilience, observability and security.
- Strong knowledge of integration architecture, including REST APIs, event-driven architecture, messaging, and other synchronous/asynchronous integration patterns.
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, including DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and platform engineering.
- Experience defining Target Architectures, Reference Architectures, technology roadmaps and Architecture Governance for large-scale transformation programmes.
- Experience managing architectural debt and driving technology evolution across complex enterprise estates.
- Strong thought leadership with experience leading teams of architects and influencing senior technology and business stakeholders.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with pragmatic delivery - articulating trade-offs across the architecture.
- Experience adopting AI-assisted architecture and engineering tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, Claude or similar) to improve solution design, documentation engineering productivity and delivery.
- Bachelor's degree, as a minimum, in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline. Professional architecture certifications (e.g. TOGAF) and cloud certifications are desirable.
Core Banking & Architecture Experience
- Hands-on experience with one or more leading core banking platforms, such as Temenos Transact (T24), Finacle, FIS Profile, Oracle FLEXCUBE, Avaloq, Thought Machine, Mambu, 10x Banking, Engine by Starling, or relevant Fiserv core banking solutions.
- Deep understanding of end-to-end banking capabilities, including customer onboarding, customer information management, deposits, lending, payments, product catalogue, general ledger, digital banking, open banking and regulatory reporting.
- Experience working within highly regulated banking environments and a strong understanding of regulatory and security considerations.
