What You'll Do
As Strategic Projects Senior Director, you will play a central role in shaping and driving the evolution of the Expertise Advantage Practice Area, comprising BCG Vantage and the Expert Career Track.
In support of the Expertise Advantage PAL, you will act as a key member of the leadership team and serve as the connective tissue between strategy, execution, and day‑to‑day leadership priorities.
The Strategic Projects function operates as a COO / Chief of Staff–style capability for the practice area. In this role, you will partner closely with the Practice Area Leader, Vantage Business Senior Directors, and Global Practice Area Management Executive Directors to help set direction, drive change, and ensure the most critical priorities are executed with discipline and pace.
This role sits at the intersection of business leadership, operating model evolution, and AI-enabled transformation. You will shape and oversee a portfolio of high-impact initiatives that support the continued evolution of Expertise Advantage's operating model and accelerate the AI transformation of Expertise and Knowledge, in line with BCG’s broader firmwide agenda.
You will combine senior-level judgment, strong influence, and delivery oversight with selective hands‑on engagement—stepping in where needed to unblock progress, support leadership decision making, and ensure the organization is positioned for success in firm-level discussions and governance forums.
Key Responsibilities
- Partnership to senior leaders: Act as a close thought partner to the Practice Area Leader and related senior leadership cohorts, helping shape priorities, frame decisions, and drive the change agenda across BCG Vantage and the Expert Career Track.
- COO / Chief of Staff function: Lead the Strategic Projects capability as a COO / Chief of Staff–style function for the practice area, ensuring alignment, follow-through, and momentum on the most critical leadership priorities.
- Strategic agenda ownership: Define, prioritize, and oversee a portfolio of cross-functional initiatives that advance the Expertise Advantage agenda, balancing near‑term delivery with longer‑term operating model evolution.
- AI and operating model transformation: Shape and drive initiatives that enable AI adoption across Expertise and Knowledge, partnering with relevant global and functional teams to embed new ways of working and scalable impact.
- Execution oversight: Ensure initiatives progress from intent to impact, providing direction, challenge, and course correction as needed to maintain pace and quality.
- Insight and performance management: Oversee strategic, financial, and performance analyses (in partnership with Finance and other teams) to inform decisions, track progress, and support continuous improvement.
- Team leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the Strategic Projects team (sometimes in matrixed construct), setting clear expectations, fostering high performance, and ensuring the team is positioned to deliver sustained impact.
You're Good At
- Senior leadership partnership: Operating as a trusted advisor to senior executives, with the credibility to influence direction and challenge constructively.
- Strategic judgment: Navigating complex, ambiguous situations and making sound decisions that balance competing priorities and constraints.
- Driving change: Leading multi-year transformation agendas, including operating model evolution and AI-enabled change, in large, matrixed organizations.
- Execution leadership: Translating priorities into action and ensuring disciplined follow-through across multiple initiatives and stakeholders.
- Influence without authority: Mobilizing senior leaders and teams across functions, geographies, and pyramids to move in the same direction.
- Executive communication: Framing issues clearly, shaping compelling narratives, and supporting senior leaders in high‑stakes forums.
- People leadership: Building, developing, and motivating high‑performing teams in a project‑driven environment.
What You'll Bring
- 12–15+ years of relevant experience in strategy, management consulting, or senior internal strategy / operations roles, with exposure to firmwide or practice‑level leadership agendas.
- Demonstrated experience partnering closely with senior executives to shape and deliver complex change programs.
- Proven track record leading operating model evolution and/or AI‑enabled transformation at scale.
- Strong business judgment, with the ability to connect strategic ambition to practical execution.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills, including comfort operating at the most senior levels of the organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, or a related field; a Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- Ability to operate effectively across cultures, functions, and levels of seniority in a global, matrixed environment.
