Position Summary: Assembles instrument trays for surgical procedures using computerized count sheets and processes instrumentation for sterilization and distribution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transports surgical instruments and medical materials between the surgical suites and Sterile Processing Department (SPD) following departmental procedures.
- Restocks surgical core areas with sterilized instruments per department guidelines.
- Receives, sorts, and decontaminates soiled instruments and equipment using manual logs and various cleaning equipment.
- Operates decontamination machinery such as automatic washers, cart washers, and endoscope reprocessors.
- Inspects, assembles, and sterilizes surgical instrument trays and medical supply packets according to standard lists and manufacturer guidelines.
- Operates sterilizers, sets appropriate programs, and monitors critical data during sterilization cycles.
- Answers departmental phone calls, forwards messages, and provides routine information, escalating complex queries when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma/GED required
Licensure/ Certifications: Certification as a Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is required upon hire or within one year from the hire date OR Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required upon hire or within one year from the hire date.
