This Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)/Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) role is an indirect/direct care role. The CNS/APN is a key member of the programs nursing leadership team, responsible for advancing clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides expert consultation for patient/populations with complex health care needs, evaluating the impact of nursing interventions on patient outcomes evidence based practice.
  • Integrates knowledge, research findings, and experience to support the incorporation of evidence-based practice into excellent bedside nursing care.
  • Initiates clinical inquiry, evidence-based practice and facilitates nursing research.
  • Advances nursing practice by participation in professional organizations, publications and dissemination.
  • Coordinates care and transitions in collaboration with the patient/population and inter-professional team members.
  • Facilitates resolution of ethical conflicts in complex patient care situations.
  • Supports an accountable nursing care environment that stimulates continuous self-learning, reflective practice and invites peer feedback to improve nursing practice.
  • Demonstrates advanced interpersonal and communication skills, employs conflict management and negotiation skills to support a healthy work environment.
  • Providing care to infants, children, and young adults with both acute and chronic diseases in medicine and behavioral health. Common populations include complex care, gastroenterology, pulmonary, endocrine, and behavioral health.
  • Working primarily Monday-Friday day shift with some schedule flexibility needed to meet off-shift practice and educational needs of staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of recent inpatient pediatric nursing experience. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Previous CNS experience preferred.
  • Licensure/Certifications: Current Massachusetts license as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). Current National Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) granted by a Board recognized certifying organization.
