Child Life Specialist (MSICU) in Boston

Position Summary

20 hours a week (two, 10.5 hour days a week). The Child Life Specialist will support patients and families in our high acuity Medical and Surgical Intensive Care (MSICU) units. We seek an experienced CCLS to participate in therapeutic activities and support families facing trauma, grief, complicated diagnosis, and highly acute medical situations. Working with a team of other Child Life Specialists, the group will facilitate coping, preparation, and education related to the hospital experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Participating in therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients\’ psychosocial and developmental needs, and facilitating adjustment to health care experiences for patients.
• Serving as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Delegating work assignments to volunteers and participating in clinical training of student interns.

Minimum Qualifications – Education

Bachelor\’s degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.

600‑hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist.

Experience

• General skills to resolve problems requiring the use of child development theory, professional child life principles, and evidence‑based knowledge.
• Well‑developed writing skills, and excellent communication skills including conflict resolution to effectively work as a team member.
• Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire.
