Supporting a Windows 11 upgrade project, we have a requirement to assess our end user application software estate. Currently with SCCM but also with many manually installed applications across the estate. This is coupled with a VDI environment where apps are built into app layers and base images. Strategically, we want to move to Numacent for application delivery and lifecycle management across all device types.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the design, build, and implementation of Numacent as technology. As a Software Application Packager, you will be responsible for creating, testing, and deploying software packages for use across different environments, ensuring that all applications are properly configured, optimized, and ready for distribution. You will collaborate closely with system administrators, developers, and QA teams to ensure smooth and efficient deployment processes. This role is critical in maintaining consistency and control over software installations and updates within an organization.
Key Responsibilities:- Software Packaging & Deployment: Create and maintain software packages for deployment across multiple platforms (Windows, VDI). Use packaging tools like WiX Toolset, InstallShield, Advanced Installer, or AdminStudio to build installation packages for desktop and server applications. Test, validate, and troubleshoot software packages to ensure they meet quality standards. Automate the creation of application packages where possible, using scripts or deployment tools like Numacent, SCCM, Intune.
- Application Compatibility: Work with application owners to identify specific installation and configuration requirements. Ensure software applications are compatible with the organization's OS and environments, addressing dependencies, conflicts, and system-specific issues.
- Collaboration & Support: Collaborate with developers, system administrators, and security teams to ensure that packaged applications meet security standards and deployment requirements. Provide guidance to IT teams on software packaging best practices. Respond to internal support queries and troubleshoot application packaging issues.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain clear documentation for all software packaging processes, configurations, and deployment methods. Track and report on the status of packaging efforts, deployment progress, and related issues to relevant stakeholders.
- Automation & Optimization: Continuously evaluate and implement automation tools to streamline packaging and deployment workflows. Optimize existing processes to ensure efficient use of resources and minimal downtime during deployments.
