BOSS Energy Consulting is partnering exclusively with a high-growth cleantech start-up that is commercialising electrified heating technology for industrial applications. The company is developing a proprietary system that replaces fossil-fuel powered boilers with a competitive, lower-cost alternative – helping industrial plants cut emissions while reducing energy costs. This is a rare early-stage hire where you will shape how the company’s systems move from customer conversation to deployed infrastructure. The role sits within the Technical Operations team and spans the full project lifecycle – from pre-sales technical scoping through to on-site commissioning. As the company scales, there is a clear pathway for this role to evolve into building and leading this function. The role is hybrid (2–3 days per week in office), with regular travel for customer engagement, site surveys, and early deployments.
Key Responsibilities
- Intake & Pre-Sales: Lead technical discovery calls and site readiness assessments to support the Commercial team. Structure feasibility analyses (what’s possible, trade-offs, quick go/no-go decisions). Set realistic expectations; avoid over-promising while enabling a compelling commercial path. Own the technical handoff and integration plan (mechanical, electrical, and process scope). Coordinate contractors, rigging, commissioning, and on-site testing; provide hands-on support where needed. Interface with OEMs, integrators, and EPCs; conduct design reviews and ensure alignment on P&IDs and controls.
- Stakeholder Management: Work with EPCs, integrators, and permitting partners to de-risk delivery (method statements, risk assessments, local building/industrial permits). Ensure conformance to site standards (HSE, electrical, pressure systems, etc.).
- Data, Documentation & Enablement: Gather and structure customer data (profiles, metering, historical loads). Maintain technical documentation, BoMs, and commissioning records. Provide technical support to commercial pilots and help mature the pipeline. Document performance, lessons learned, and support issue resolution through commissioning.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong systems integration and mechanical design capability with experience progressing projects from concept and proposal to deployment and commissioning.
- Comfortable identifying plant and process-specific challenges and developing effective engineering solutions.
- Experience with complex system integration in heavy industries, steam systems, process systems, and/or hybrid heating solutions with a focus on industrial deployment.
- Additional experience in HVAC and refrigeration cycles is a plus.
- Strong communication skills, comfortable engaging technically with clients, project teams, and field engineers.
- Willingness to travel for site surveys, installation support, and customer meetings (domestic/international as needed).
- Prior experience as an Applications or Systems Integration Engineer, or a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent).
- You must have the right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is unfortunately not available for this role at this time.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with industrial heat pump technology, thermal systems, or heat recovery applications.
- Comfortable producing design documentation, schematics/P&IDs, and project reporting.
All applications and enquiries will be handled in strict confidence.
