The role combines expertise in fluid‑handling systems with control‑system engineering. The successful candidate will lead the development, integration, and refinement of automated control architectures for a specialised process system used in industrial environments. The position involves cross‑functional collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to ensure that all subsystems function cohesively. Responsibilities span early‑stage system architecture, detailed design, prototype evaluation, and implementation in live operational settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop end‑to‑end control logic, state sequences, and fault‑handling strategies for an automated thermal‑process system.
  • Define control philosophies and influence system architecture to improve reliability, operability, and maintainability.
  • Specify instrumentation and control components for fluid‑handling applications, including actuators, variable‑speed drives, sensors, and safety‑critical devices.
  • Establish and document engineering standards, design practices, and equipment selections aligned with recognised industrial methods.
  • Produce and review system documentation such as schematics, logic descriptions, and integration requirements.
  • Participate in prototype testing, system optimisation, and on‑site commissioning activities.
  • Analyse operational data to support performance improvements and control‑logic updates.
  • Provide technical mentorship to colleagues working in adjacent disciplines.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience developing complete control‑system sequences for complex or first‑of‑kind engineered systems.
  • Strong understanding of industrial fluid‑handling equipment (e.g., pumps, valves, piping) and how these interact within automated systems.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation, sensors, and industrial control hardware.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, distributed control architectures, and automation concepts (full programming depth not required).
  • Strong communication, coordination, and documentation skills, with experience working across multiple stakeholder groups.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

  • Additional background in fluid‑system design, including component sizing and hydraulic calculations.
  • Understanding of safety‑related control methodologies (e.g., functional safety, safety‑integrity assessment, protection‑layer design).
  • Hands‑on experience with programming or integrating industrial control systems and networks.
  • Exposure to high‑energy or process‑industry environments such as thermal systems, power systems, or large‑scale electromechanical installations.
  • Professional engineering accreditation or progress toward it.
