Make your mark as ROV Pilot Technician Grade I at Boskalis Subsea Services in Aberdeen. You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of safe and effective subsea operations through competent piloting, maintenance, and fault-finding of ROV systems and associated tooling. Building on foundational experience gained as a Pilot Technician Grade II, this role requires increased autonomy in task execution and problem-solving, while still operating under the direction of senior personnel.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate progressing technical proficiency across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems, and be confident in piloting operations such as navigation, visual inspection, station keeping, and manipulator use. This role plays a key part in live operations and offshore readiness, and supports mobilisation, maintenance, and reporting activities.

Working within the offshore ROV team and reporting to the ROV Supervisor, the Pilot Technician Grade I is expected to uphold high operational standards, contribute to a strong safety culture, and actively participate in the company’s Competence Management Scheme (CMS) as they progress toward Senior Pilot Technician status.

Your responsibilities as a ROV Pilot Technician Grade I:

  • Pilot the ROV during subsea operations, including navigation, station keeping, visual inspection, sonar tracking, and basic tooling deployment, under the supervision of senior personnel.
  • Assist in manipulator operations, including simple intervention tasks, object recovery, and valve operations as required by the work scope.
  • Support launch and recovery operations (LARS/TMS), including deck safety, tether management, and communication with deck crew and bridge.
  • Monitor ROV telemetry, video feeds, sonar, and sensor data during live operations to ensure situational awareness and early identification of anomalies.
  • Conduct pre- and post-dive checks, recording all data in accordance with company and client documentation procedures.
  • Carry out first-line fault-finding and basic corrective maintenance across ROV sub-systems, including hydraulics, electrical connections, sensors, and propulsion.
  • Undertake planned maintenance on ROV systems and associated tooling in accordance with the company’s maintenance management system (MMS).

We offer:

  • A minimum of 180 days offshore in the role of ROV Pilot Technician II – CV with work history to date and IMCA Logbook – last 12 months work experience verification.
  • Multi-discipline Project Experience: piloting observation or work-class ROVs, supporting live fault-finding or repair, familiarity with subsea tooling or sensors and practical experience assisting with integration checks, deck layout setup or equipment retention – CV with work history to date.
  • Valid and current IMCA Company Member Competence Certificate or completed and validated IMCA Competence Portfolio supporting completion of all ROV Pilot Technician Grade II (R04) competencies.
  • Technical qualifications: recognised technical qualification in electrical, electronic, mechanical, or hydraulic discipline (e.g. NVQ Level 3, HNC, military trade, or equivalent).
  • ROV Introductory Training: successful completion of an IMCA-approved ROV Introductory Training course (IMCA R002 compliant), with valid certification.
  • Offshore availability and resilience - willingness to work rotational offshore shifts in physically demanding conditions.
  • Strong communication skills - contributes positively to team dynamics and maintains clear, respectful communication.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to improve - open to feedback, actively seeks learning opportunities, and contributes to a learning-oriented environment.
  • OPITO approved BOSIET with CA-EBS, MIST (for UKCS only) and OEUK Medical (including Bi-Deltoid shoulder measurements).
