Make your mark as a Technical Rating at Boskalis! The Technical Rating is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all machinery and electrical equipment onboard the vessel and carrying out the role of GP Rating.

Main Tasks

  • To be familiar with details of vessel’s construction, machinery and operating characteristics.
  • Undertakes relevant checks before departure on a sea passage including ensuring that the vessel is in all respects prepared for the voyage, taking into account such factors as stability, stress, trim and watertight integrity, ensures that there are sufficient bunkers for the voyage, including reserve.
  • Reports any deficiencies to the Master and Technical Superintendent.
  • Makes regular inspections of machinery and machinery spaces so that at all times they are aware of condition and operational capability of all items of machinery.
  • Arrange all transfers of fuel/lub oil and fresh water.
  • Ensures that all planned maintenance and both normal and emergency repair work is carried out.
  • In conjunction with the Maintenance Superintendent, ensure that all work is planned for minimum disruption to the vessel’s overall programme and maximum reliability and availability of the plant.
  • Ensures all measures to prevent pollution of the environment are exercised.
  • Keep all engine room records as required by the Company and other authorities and ensuring that they are completed neatly and accurately.
  • To give/receive an appropriate and detailed handover when joining/leaving a Company vessel.
  • Being fully conversant with Company and Shipboard regulations and policies in order to carry out efficient and safe functions.
  • Being familiar with all safety equipment onboard and participating in safety drills and training to ensure the highest operation standard of the vessel at all times.
  • To carry out any other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Master or the Company.
  • Carry out duties of GP Rating.
