How you can make your mark
Are you ready to kickstart your career by creating innovative infrastructure and protecting coastal areas through climate adaptation? Look no further than the Dredging track of the Boskalis Traineeship in the UK! With our extensive fleet of specialised dredgers, we are at the forefront of creating infrastructure and new land worldwide, driving economic development, and facilitating international trade. You will have the opportunity to contribute to building new ports, maintaining crucial waterways, and expanding existing terminals. In addition to fostering economic growth, we are committed to addressing the challenges of climate change. Through our coastal defence and riverbank protection schemes, we help protect countries and people from rising sea levels and increasingly extreme weather events. And so, you can make your mark!
What you can expect
As a Trainee you get to work on various ‘one of a kind’ projects which often are the benchmark of the industry. You may be part of the tendering, engineering or operational phase of a dredging project. Examples of international projects that we have been or currently working on are land reclamation for Pasay Harbor City (Philippines) and Finger Pier 3 (Singapore). Another project example is preparing the seabed for the construction of the Yunlin offshore wind farm (Taiwan). Our UK projects included work in Southsea, Portsmouth where we completed major coastal defence and flood protection scheme including rock revetment installation and beach replenishment. At the Manchester Ship Canal we carried out maintenance dredging to keep depths safe for ship traffic. More recently we completed works in Lerwick, Shetland Islands with capital dredging to deepen the north harbour using backhoe dredger and trailer suction hopper dredgers as well as marine drilling and blasting.
Typically you would do one assignment at the Boskalis Westminster office in Fareham and do one assignment on a project location overseas. Overseas means that you will work on location for up to six weeks after which you will have four weeks of leave.
The Programme
During the work assignments there is a lot of room to work on your personal development as you will work with professional coaches and mentors. The programme is packed with personal development courses, safety courses and specific track relevant courses. Together with your fellow trainees and coaches you will set personal development goals and work on them during and in between the assignments. You will build a strong international network in a short period of time. The courses take place at Boskalis' headquarters in Papendrecht, the Netherlands.
