We have a Simulations Engineer vacancy here in Stowmarket, Suffolk. Working alongside our cross-functional, user centric teams you will be able to contribute to the research, design and development of the next generation of Bosch Outdoor & Garden products. Support all garden segments with simulation and design for reliability expertise:
- Produce static and dynamic analysis of components, sub system and products through the use of CAD data translated into a FEA environment (Abaqus) to support the manufacture of safe competitive products.
- Use computational fluid dynamics simulation software to design and develop airflow components and systems.
- Design gearing and mechanisms using KISSsoft calculation software.
- Produce appropriate documentation of results and conclusions.
- Work with development teams to ensure design for reliability, building understanding of product systems and cause-effect relationships to create robust design concepts.
- Ensure that all development and test areas are operated in accordance with Company Health and Safety practices, with particular emphasis on housekeeping.
- Seek out developments in technology likely to enable improvements in the cost/performance of the company’s products.

Job Summary:
To contribute to the financial success of the company by helping to ensure that the assigned sectors of the company’s product range function in all respects to a level appropriate to the products competitive market positioning. To contribute to the development of the Company’s products by ensuring that they are simulated and designed in a cost and timely efficient manner.
Main Responsibilities:
- Support the teams on all matters relating to the function of existing or proposed products.
- Contribute to the new product introduction team or serial production team working by the completion of appropriate assigned tasks and roles, particularly by the ownership of simulation tasks and design for reliability.
- Produce static and dynamic analysis of components, sub system and products through the use of PTC Creo data translated into a FEA environment (Abaqus) to support the manufacture of safe competitive products.
- Analysis will include: Stiffness investigations, Maximum load failures, Dynamic drop tests.
- Work closely with third parties to resolve queries and problems with design proposals and related tooling and to control the issue status of 3D data and drawings supplied to third parties using the business change procedure.
- Ensure that all development activities and test equipment are operated in accordance with accepted health and safety practice.
- Take joint ownership with other associates for housekeeping, maintenance and improvement of the Product Range Development facilities.
- Ensure that sufficient and manageable test data is retained to cover the company’s ongoing legal obligation in association with the Manager and the Standards, Approvals & Compliance requirements.
- Seek out developments in the area of Finite Element Analysis likely to enable improvements in the cost/performance of the Bosch Lawn and Garden products.
- Supervise placements students as required.
- Any other task deemed appropriate by the Manager and within the capabilities of the post holder.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Instil a culture of health and safety awareness and continuous improvement.
- Compliance with all relevant legislation (QMM, HSE, etc).
- Relevant authorisations and permits.
- RAMS and COSHH assessment and compliance for function activities.
Qualifications:
- Essential: Engineering, Physics, Mathematics degree or equivalent.
- Desirable: MEng Degree - FEA content as part of degree course.
Technical Skills:
- Essential: Good written, oral communication, presentation and IT skills; 2D drawings compliant with international standard; Knowledge of 3D CAD modelling; Knowledge and application of material properties; Physics of failure concerning polymers and metals; Test instrumentation and analysis techniques knowledge.
- Desirable: 3D CAD modelling Pro E/Creo; Material Selection, application and constraints of associated manufacturing processes; Understanding of Failure Modes Effect and Analysis; Knowledge of the application of Planetary Gear Boxes, Clutch systems, Eccentrics and Belt systems.
Experience:
- Essential: Exposure and awareness of FEA at university or business placement; Experience in the use of mechanics including Statics, Mechanics and Energy Balance and Transfer.
- Desirable: 3 years simulations work experience and/or experience in the use of: Simlab or equivalent; Aquabus (Static or Dynamic) or equivalent; Kisssoft – Gear Design or Equivalent; CFD software experience; Experience within the Lawn and Garden or Power Tools sectors.
Behavioural Skills:
- Essential: Good interpersonal skills and team player; Outgoing personality with excellent communication skills.
