About the Role
In this position, you will design the electrical foundation for custom automation systems, transforming functional concepts into detailed, build-ready schematics and control panel layouts. Your designs will bring automation to life. Working closely with Mechanical Designers, Automation Systems Programmers, and Machine Builders, you’ll ensure every project meets BOS’s standards of safety, precision, and performance. This is a hands-on, technically rewarding role for someone who enjoys detailed electrical design work, thrives on collaboration, and takes pride in creating systems that work seamlessly from the first wire to final commissioning.
Responsibilities
- Design and Documentation: Create and maintain electrical and pneumatic schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts in SolidWorks Electrical. Develop bills of materials, terminal lists, and as-built documentation to support manufacturing, commissioning, and customer manuals. Ensure all designs comply with governing regulations, safety standards, and internal guidelines.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with the Applications, Mechanical, and Programming teams to align electrical design with project goals. Participate in concept and design reviews, presenting your work clearly and confidently. Partner with suppliers to identify and source the right components for function, lead time, and cost efficiency.
- Optimization and Standardization: Support the build team through schematic reviews and troubleshooting, ensuring systems are optimized for assembly and function. Contribute to the development and maintenance of departmental design standards, templates, and best practices to drive continuous improvement.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Lead electrical design on small to medium-scale projects, ensuring alignment with scope, budget, and timelines. Provide guidance and support to junior designers, fostering skill development and consistency across the department.

About You
You are an experienced and detail-oriented designer who takes pride in accuracy and craftsmanship. You have a strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and enjoy translating complex ideas into clear, buildable designs. You have a degree or diploma in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering or Technology and five or more years of experience in industrial electrical design, ideally within automation or machine building. You are proficient in SolidWorks Electrical, with exposure to AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN considered an asset. You have a solid understanding of industrial components, control panels, safety circuits, and electrical standards such as CSA and NFPA. You communicate effectively, manage multiple projects with confidence, and thrive in a collaborative environment. An understanding of PLC I/O structure and system integration is beneficial, though programming is not required. Familiarity with motion systems, robotics, or industrial networks is an asset.
