About the role:
We are seeking to appoint motivated and knowledgeable Family Practitioners to join the 0-18 Help team. The Early Help Service supports families with children and young people aged 0 to 19 and up to 25 with a disability. The service works in partnership with families to address problems, or potential problems, at the earliest opportunity. Early intervention may occur at any point in a child or young person’s life. The successful candidates will be able to work in partnership with other professionals, parents and carers to intervene early when families need more support. You will be expected to assess needs, complete an action plan and undertake Team Around the Family meetings (TAF). The successful candidate will also need to have excellent interpersonal skills to work with colleagues at all levels of the organisation and be competent at assessing risk and making sound casework decisions. This is a fixed-term position to provide maternity cover, anticipated to last for 12 months. However, applicants should be aware that the duration of the contract may be subject to change. In the event that the employee currently on maternity leave decides to return to work earlier than originally indicated, the contract may be terminated with appropriate notice in accordance with the terms of employment.
Key Responsibilities:
- To contribute to the achievement of improved outcomes for Children and Families in Waltham Forest, through effective whole family interventions focused on two or more priorities from the Troubled Families Outcomes Plan.
- Design and carry out effective whole family interventions as the Lead Professional with a caseload of up to 20 families with multiple needs.
- Ensure continuity and consistency in delivery of early help assessments using the Our Family Journey tool with families, including Family Outcomes Planning and review through home visits, parenting support, chairing Team Around the Family meetings and professionals meetings.
- Carry out strength-based practice that builds skills, relationships and resilience, helping families to help themselves and each other.
- Promote effective integrated working across the children’s services system: develop effective working relationships with families and communities, within Families First, within the Early Help Division, and with professional partners from a range of agencies and sectors.
- Carry out multi-disciplinary and co-located team working and coordinate multi-agency Family Outcomes Plans that build skills and relationships, and improve outcomes for families.
Qualifications and Requirements:

- Degree or equivalent or vocational qualification in relevant subject or area.
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
