About the role:

We’re looking for a passionate and proactive Sustainable Transport Project Officer to help deliver our ambitious programme of sustainable travel projects and initiatives. If you care about tackling the climate emergency, improving local streets, and supporting communities to walk, cycle and travel more sustainably, this role is your opportunity to make a real difference.

Role overview:

As a Sustainable Transport Project Officer, you will play a key role in planning, delivering and monitoring projects as part of our wider Enjoy Waltham Forest Programme. This is a hands-on, varied role where you’ll balance project work, stakeholder engagement, and the administration of key services such as our secure cycle parking portfolio. You’ll be joining a committed and collaborative team working to improve air quality, support residents to choose healthier modes of transport, and make travelling around the borough accessible for all.

What you’ll do:

  • Design, plan, and deliver a range of sustainable transport projects including walking, cycling, Electric Vehicle and Car Club schemes.
  • Support the administration of services we offer including cycle parking and School Streets.
  • Engage with communities through in-person and virtual activities to shape project design and evaluate impact.
  • Handle correspondence and prepare reports, briefing notes and performance data.
  • Analyse research, data and qualitative feedback to build a strong evidence base for decision-making.

Qualifications and Requirements:

To be considered for this position, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent or vocational qualification in relevant subject or area.
  • Minimum 5 GCSE (A* - C / 9 - 5) including Maths and English.
  • Demonstrable interest in sustainability and/or transport.
  • Experience of having worked in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
  • Excellent knowledge and application of IT systems and software packages.
  • Relevant legislative and or procedural knowledge for specialist area.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, using problem-solving skills and initiative to provide a customer-focused support service.
  • Excellent levels of literacy and numeracy.
  • Ability to work flexibly, balancing competing priorities and meeting deadlines whilst understanding the needs, timescales and deadlines of others.
  • Ability to deal diplomatically and confidentially with a wider range of stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Ability to identify improvements to processes and systems and to share the recommendations with the wider team.
  • Ability to produce a reasoned report on a relevant subject.
  • Ability to think logically and demonstrate numeracy.
  • Ability to complete work within specified timescales and budgets.
