About the role: We are seeking a proactive and community-focused Environmental Initiatives Coordinator to lead and support a range of environmental, volunteering and social value programmes across the borough. The role involves working closely with residents, community groups, partners and contractors to deliver projects that enhance local neighbourhoods, promote sustainability and encourage community participation. From coordinating volunteer activities and environmental campaigns to supporting allotments and food-growing initiatives, the successful candidate will play a key role in creating cleaner, greener and more vibrant communities while ensuring the delivery of meaningful social value outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and deliver a range of environmental and community initiatives, including Spring Clean, Environmental Volunteers, Allotments, London in Bloom, Bulb Giveaway and Bee-Friendly Streets programmes.
- Engage residents and community groups to promote sustainable waste management and the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle through education and outreach activities.
- Manage the annual Community Benefit Plan, ensuring social value commitments are delivered through contracted services.
- Maintain accurate records, coordinate project schedules and volunteer events, and work collaboratively with council teams, contractors, partners and local communities.
- Provide excellent customer service while supporting the development of allotments and community food-growing projects across the borough.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Vocational qualification in relevant subject or area (preferred)
- GCSEs or equivalent (required)
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (required)
- Full UK driving licence and use of own transport for Council business (required)
