About the role:
As a Parenting Coordinator, you will deliver evidence-based parenting programmes and group interventions as part of the Family Hubs and Best Start for Life offer, supporting parents to strengthen relationships, build confidence, and improve outcomes for children and young people. The role empowers families through high-quality facilitation, early intervention, and partnership working. Home visitation is an important part of the service requirement. The post-holder will be trained to implement a number of Parenting interventions, including ‘Parents as First Teachers,' as well as others.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare and deliver evidence-based parenting programmes, workshops and group interventions (including evenings where required).
- Build strong, trusting and professional relationships with parents using strengths-based and inclusive approaches.
- Conduct pre-programme assessments/screening to identify family needs, risks and suitability for programmes.
- Engage and recruit families through targeted outreach, referrals and partnership working.
- Provide information, advice and signposting to broader services, enabling families to access appropriate support.
- Maintain accurate, timely and compliant records on systems (e.g., Mosaic) and contribute to service monitoring and evaluation.
- Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, escalating in line with policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with Early Help teams, Family Hubs, schools, health services, and community organisations to ensure coordinated support.
- Deliver support through home visits and community-based settings (Family Hubs, libraries, etc.).
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practice in parenting, child development and early intervention.
- Contribute to the development of parenting resources, materials and activities.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety, safeguarding and organisational policies.
Projects/Initiatives:
- Delivery of Family Hubs and Best Start for Life parenting offer
- Implementation of evidence-based parenting programmes (e.g., Parents as First Teachers, Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities)
- Contribution to service development, evaluation and improvement initiatives
Supervisory / Leadership Responsibilities:
- No formal line management responsibility
- May support or guide volunteers where appropriate
- Expected to take ownership of programme delivery and act as a specialist facilitator within the service area
Qualifications and Requirements:
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Minimum 1 year’s experience working with children and/or families, including delivering group work or parenting programmes
- Experience supporting families facing multiple disadvantages (e.g. mental health, domestic abuse, substance misuse)
- Strong understanding of child development, family dynamics, safeguarding, risk assessment and information sharing
- Ability to facilitate group sessions, build rapport with parents, and manage sensitive situations with empathy
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multi-agency partners
- Competent in IT systems; experience with case management systems (e.g. Mosaic) is desirable
- Relevant qualification in childcare, social care, early years or community development is desirable
- Experience of recognised programmes, home visiting, and Early Help systems is desirable
- Ability to travel, work flexibly (including evenings), and manage a varied workload
- Commitment to safe working practices and continuous professional development
