About the role

We are seeking to appoint two Assistant Educational Psychologists (AEP) to join our Educational Psychologist Service team in Waltham Forest. As an AEP, you will provide support to Educational Psychologists (EPs) in schools and the wider community, as well as participating in the delivery and evaluation of programme interventions. We wish to appoint an enthusiastic Assistant Educational Psychologist who is planning a future career as an Educational Psychologist. The successful candidates will support initiatives to promote children's well-being and learning through early intervention and prevention. The Assistant Educational Psychologist may be asked to support Senior EPs, EPs and Trainee EPs in their work with schools, parents and other professionals. The role may also include some administrative tasks. A programme of induction and training will be provided offering excellent preparation for applying for professional educational psychology doctoral training programmes.

You will need a good psychology degree (2:1 or above) and Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society prior to application. It is an essential requirement to have previous relevant experience of applying psychology to work with children and young people in educational or community settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • To support the delivery of Educational Psychology services under the direct supervision of HCPC registered Educational Psychologists and line managed by a Senior Educational Psychologist.
  • Support school staff and families to meet the needs of children with a range of special educational needs and disabilities through observation, intervention and training.
  • Support with the development, delivery and evaluation of programmes for schools, parents and children and young people including frequent contact with schools, professionals and families.
  • Support with quality assurance and service development of the Educational Psychology Service including design, collection and analysis of outcome measures.
  • Research and review the evidence-base relating to practice for supporting children and young people with SEND.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A good honours degree in Psychology (2:1 or above) or master's degree conferring Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
  • Previous relevant experience of applying psychology to work with children and young people in educational or community settings.
