About the Job

In this position, you will play a key role with supporting the Community Safety and Corporate Resilience Manager to deliver on the Newham Safety Partnership priorities to reduce crime and fear of crime. One key priority is to respond to hate crime and modern slavery and oversee the delivery of the borough’s Hate Crime Strategy and associated action plans. You will be a key contact for partners and community groups on hate crime and modern slavery initiatives and concerns. The post holder will undertake regular resident engagement, incorporating community feedback and input into project and policy development and delivery, as well as creating mechanisms to provide regular feedback and updates to residents on the progress of work programmes.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience of hate crime and modern slavery issues that impact upon communities and powers available to address these issues.
  • Knowledge and understanding of policy, practice and legislation relating to hate crime, modern slavery and crime prevention.
  • Experience of developing multi-agency violence reduction action plans, initiatives and strategies with regards to Hate Crime and Modern Slavery.
  • Significant experience developing and maintaining effective partnerships, working in collaboration with statutory, non-statutory partners and communities to achieve shared objectives.
  • Experience of dealing with the public in a multiracial and diverse urban environment.
  • Excellent IT, verbal and written communication skills, with experience of high-level report writing and presentation of reports to varying audiences including elected members, senior management and the community.
  • Willingness to work flexibly and respond to needs of the service, including working ad-hoc evenings and weekends as well as attending residents’ meetings and resident engagement events across the borough.

Whilst this is a hybrid role, the Community Safety Team are based at 1000 Dockside Road and there is a requirement to be office based a minimum of 2 days a week.
