The Assistant Public Health Strategist for Health Inequalities will support the development, implementation and evaluation of projects within the Lewisham Health Inequalities and Health Equity Programme, including the ongoing implementation of the opportunities for action from the Birmingham and Lewisham African Caribbean Health Inequalities Review (BLACHIR). Working at both strategic and operational levels, they will coordinate and lead work streams and projects using and developing appropriate systems and processes to achieve agreed outcomes, ensuring public health is central to all relevant Council, IC/S, NHS and partner commissioning activity and building public health capacity across organisations and settings.

What we are looking for:

  • Design and execute collaborative public health initiatives focused on health equity.
  • Lead planning, commissioning, implementation and evaluation of policies and programmes to achieve health equity.
  • Support procurement and contract management of services to ensure high‐quality, evidence‐based health promotion programmes that demonstrate value for money.
  • Develop and distribute educational materials and resources for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with community organisations, primary care and NHS Trusts to achieve health equity.
  • Manage projects, including evaluations and surveys; supervise allocated staff and monitor budgets to achieve outputs and outcomes.
  • Produce and deliver regular written and verbal updates to GP practices, Council meetings, Integrated Care Boards and community groups on service development, NICE guidance, best practice and health equity activities.
  • Evaluate health inequalities and their impact on population groups by analysing data from a variety of sources to inform needs assessments, strategy development, action plans and evaluations.
  • Work with statutory and non‐profit organisations, local communities and partners to implement local delivery plans, corporate objectives, national policies and public health initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with departments across Lewisham, Lewisham IC, South East London IC, NHS England, OHID, DHSC and other networks.
  • Promote and maintain awareness of health‐equity activities through community events, local media, other council departments and healthcare partners.
  • Stay current with research and best practices in health equity and addressing health inequalities.
  • Provide public health expertise to inform programmes, strategic development for partnership working and future commissioning.
  • Identify training needs and support procurement of training to build capacity of staff.
  • Lead multi‐agency meetings on public health areas as required.
  • Maintain commitment to continuing professional development in public health.
  • Other duties as appropriate to the needs of the department, commensurate with the grade of the post.

Location: The role is based in Laurence House, Catford, London SE6 4U, with a hybrid working model that requires regular office and home working.
