What’s the role?

The role leads the Housing Reviews and Casework Team, ensuring all homelessness decisions, reviews and appeals are legally robust, timely and high‑quality. It involves managing staff, overseeing complex casework, responding to complaints and legal challenges, and working closely with legal services, councillors and partner agencies. The postholder drives service improvement, protects the Council’s position, and supports vulnerable residents through fair, lawful decision‑making.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone with strong expertise in homelessness and housing law, who can confidently lead a team and make complex statutory decisions. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience improving services, managing staff, and handling high‑pressure casework. They should be an excellent communicator, analytical, calm under pressure, and committed to equality, customer care, and supporting vulnerable residents.

Location

The job is primarily based in Laurence House, Catford, London, SE6 4RU, but we operate a hybrid approach where you will be required to work both in the office and from home on a regular basis.

Special conditions

  • Excellent knowledge and detailed understanding of Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and other relevant housing and homelessness legislation, case law and guidance.
  • Knowledge of Landlord and Tenant Legislation, the Housing Act 1985 and Protection from Eviction Act 1977.
  • The job is subject to a Basic DBS check.
