About the Team
Community Works is Lambeth’s Direct Labour Organisation, responsible for high‑quality communal repairs, estate maintenance and HIA remedial work across the borough. The Multi‑Trade team ensures safe, compliant estates through a wide range of repair requests.
About the Role
As a Multi‑Trade Operative you will deliver a broad spectrum of communal repairs, estate‑based maintenance and HIA remedial work across Lambeth’s housing portfolio. You will perform both internal and external repairs to a high standard, ensuring safety, quality and customer satisfaction at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out internal and external repairs to a high standard.
- Deal with a wide variety of repair requests across shared and communal spaces.
- Maintain van stock levels and use a PDA to receive and update job information.
- Liaise with residents, supervisors, surveyors, and customer services to keep repairs flowing smoothly.
- Ensure health and safety compliance and uphold quality standards at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
- NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry or Plumbing (essential).
- Proven experience delivering repairs in your core trade and at least one additional trade (e.g., drainage, groundwork, plastering, glazing, brickwork or decorating).
- Experience completing responsive repairs and remedial works both internally and externally.
- Ability to interpret work instructions, plan workload and update schedules.
- Experience using PDAs or handheld devices to receive and complete repair orders.
- Strong understanding of compliance, quality standards and safe working practices.
- Excellent customer service skills, including liaising with residents and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of each repair from start to completion.
- Full UK driving licence – manual transmission (essential).
- Ability to drive and maintain a council van in line with Fleet and Community Works procedures.
