Make a difference in Brent - help keep it safe, fair and well regulated through effective licensing and enforcement. Brent is one of the most diverse boroughs in the country, with communities, ideas and experiences from across the world helping to shape who we are. Working here means joining a council that is focused on fairness, open to new thinking and committed to improving life for local people. Our values shape how we work and what people can expect from us. We collaborate proactively, lead inclusively, embrace change, are bold and curious, and celebrate and share our success. For people who care about public service and want their work to matter, Brent offers the chance to make a meaningful difference.

Every licence application represents a person, business, landlord or organisation relying on the Council for an efficient and professional service. As a Licensing and Enforcement Processing Officer, you will help support services that protect residents, promote responsible landlords/agents and maintain high standards across Brent. Working within Brent Council’s Licensing and Enforcement team, you will process applications, maintain accurate records, respond to enquiries and work with colleagues and applicants to ensure cases are handled promptly and correctly.

We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive and has an eye for detail, with strong communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills, gain experience in property licensing and join a supportive team where your work makes a real difference to Brent’s communities.

In this role you will be:

  • Process a wide range of Private Rented Sector (PRS) licence applications from initial submission through to issue, carrying out administrative and eligibility checks, verifying information and ensuring applications meet statutory and Council requirements.
  • Provide a proactive, responsive service to applicants and licence holders, guiding landlords, tenants and members of the public through the licensing process, resolving enquiries and providing clear advice and support through telephone, written and face-to-face channels.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date licensing records, carrying out relevant checks with internal and external agencies, following agreed procedures and ensuring information, fees, certificates and supporting documentation are correctly recorded and managed.
  • Work collaboratively with dedicated colleagues and partner services to progress applications and service requests, identify issues requiring further action, and ensure urgent or complex matters are referred appropriately and dealt with effectively.

You'll be joining a busy, friendly and dedicated team that plays an important role in improving housing standards across Brent. Every application you process and every enquiry you help resolve contributes to safer, better-managed homes for residents. Working closely with landlords, tenants, agents and colleagues across the Council, you'll help deliver a high-quality licensing service while building valuable experience in a role where your contribution truly matters.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Takes pride in getting things right, with strong attention to detail and accuracy when processing applications and maintaining records.
  • Is organised and dependable, able to manage a varied workload, prioritise effectively and deliver work to agreed timescales.
  • Communicates with clarity and empathy, building positive relationships and making processes easy to understand for a diverse range of customers and colleagues.
  • Is proactive and solutions-focused, using initiative to resolve issues, improve processes and keep work moving forward.
  • Brings a positive attitude and strong work ethic, taking ownership of responsibilities and remaining focused when workloads are busy.
  • Works well with others, contributing to a supportive team environment and valuing the knowledge and experience of colleagues and partners.
  • Is confident using digital systems and learning new technology, with the ability to maintain accurate information and use IT effectively in day-to-day work.
  • Is curious and keen to develop, with an interest in licensing and private rented sector housing and a willingness to build knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance.

Why join us? We know people do their best work when they feel valued, supported and able to grow. At Brent, you will benefit from:

  • 27 days’ annual leave, rising with length of service, plus bank holidays
  • Local Government Pension Scheme with generous employer contributions
  • Hybrid and flexible working options for most roles
  • Supportive family-friendly policies, including carers’ leave, paternity leave and compassionate leave for eligible employees
  • Health and wellbeing support, including eye test support and a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
  • Financial wellbeing support, including education sessions, childcare deposit loans, and season ticket loans
  • Travel support, including affordable parking nearby, a Cycle to Work scheme, and onsite facilities
  • Learning and development opportunities to support your career
  • Access to My Brent Rewards with exclusive discounts on shopping, travel, leisure and entertainment

Join a friendly and supportive team that plays a vital role in improving private rented housing across Brent. Every application you process and enquiry you help resolve contributes to safer, better-managed homes for local residents. Working closely with landlords, tenants, agents and colleagues across the Council, you'll gain valuable experience in housing licensing and regulation while making a real difference to our diverse communities.
