About the role
The Council is seeking to recruit to the role of Deputyship and Appointeeship Officer to support the Council in managing the financial affairs of vulnerable adults. This role will sit within the Customer Finance service in Adult Social Care. The purpose of this role is to provide specialist professional advice and support in respect of deputyship and appointeeship, in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) Deputyship Standards. The post holder will be expected to perform Deputyship and Appointeeship functions on behalf of individuals who are unable to manage their own financial affairs, for whom the Council has been appointed Deputy by the Court of Protection or Appointee by the DWP. Including (but not limited to) submitting applications to the Court of Protection and / or DWP, working with social work colleagues, maintaining accurate records, client visits, account reconciliations, benefit checks and holding responsibility for periodic updates to the Office of the Public Guardian. The caseload will be split across three Deputyship and Appointeeship Officers.
About you
- Knowledge of appointeeship and deputyship and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 / Best Interest decisions.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills.
- Knowledge of financial systems and databases including Caspar, Oracle and Mosaic.
- Ability to understand and interpret complex guidelines and legislation.
- Good written and verbal communication.
- Is courteous, polite and professional.
