The Council is recruiting a Deputyship and Appointeeship Officer to support the Council in managing the financial affairs of vulnerable adults. The role sits within the Customer Finance service in Adult Social Care and provides specialist professional advice and support in respect of deputyship and appointeeship, in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) Deputyship Standards.

The post holder will perform deputyship and appointeeship functions on behalf of individuals who are unable to manage their own financial affairs, for whom the Council has been appointed Deputy by the Court of Protection or Appointee by the DWP.

Responsibilities include:

  • Submitting applications to the Court of Protection and/or DWP
  • Working with social work colleagues
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Client visits
  • Account reconciliations
  • Benefit checks
  • Providing periodic updates to the Office of the Public Guardian

The caseload will be split across three officers.

About you

  • Knowledge of appointeeship and deputyship and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 / Best Interest decisions
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Knowledge of financial systems and databases including Caspar, Oracle and Mosaic
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex guidelines and legislation
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Is courteous, polite and professional
