About Barnet Council

Barnet is a borough with much to be proud of. Our excellent schools, vibrant town centres, vast green spaces and diverse communities all help make it a great place to live and work. As a council we want to build on these strengths as we move into the future. We are growing and developing as an organisation to meet the challenges facing our borough and we are committed to working with partner organisations and residents to make Barnet even better. Our values are Learning to Improve, Caring, Inclusive and Collaborative, which drive everything we do.

About the role

An exciting career opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and energetic clinician to join the Barnet Integrated Clinical Services (BICS) Children’s Social Care team. The team delivers a targeted mental health service for children, young people and families based within the Local Authority’s social care team, working with moderate mental health difficulties. You will work across the Assessment, Safeguarding and Children in Care teams offering community-based mental health assessments and therapeutic interventions to children and young people receiving a range of support from Barnet’s Children’s Social Care teams.

Within this context, young people’s difficulties often arise from family circumstances. Creative formulation helps the team decide whether to offer a service to the child, to the parents, to the whole family or to the wider network of professionals and the community of which the child is a part. We have two busy social care family therapy clinics, where you will be a part of the family therapy team, working as a lead therapist and reflecting team member. We have a strong track record of supporting team members to develop as a family therapy supervisor. The team designs and delivers training and provides consultation and advice to social workers and the wider professional network. We have just successfully designed and delivered our first round of systemic training for practitioners across the social care system. You will be joining the team at an exciting time as we think about how to extend this training to support Barnet’s practice and team development as we implement the social care reforms. You will be an integral part of this initiative.

We value and encourage your continuing professional development and will support you with regular supervision from the Clinical Manager and peer support from the other clinical practitioners in your team. We offer excellent CPD and training opportunities including specialist therapeutic approaches. We would like to invite applications from clinicians who like working creatively in the community and with colleagues in different agencies to improve the experiences and outcomes of the children, young people and their families in the borough.

In addition to the salary quoted, this salary attracts a Recruitment and Retention allowance of 10%. Base salary range is therefore £62,014 - £67,818.

What we offer:

  • 31 days annual leave, plus public and bank holidays
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, which provides a valuable guaranteed income in your retirement together with security for your dependents
  • Work‑life balance options may include hybrid working, flexitime, job share, home working, part‑time
  • A vast range of lifestyle discounts from major retailers, supermarkets, energy suppliers and more
  • Broad range of payroll benefits including cycle to work, eye care vouchers, travel and gym membership
  • Excellent training and development opportunities
  • Employee well‑being training programmes including confidential employee assistance
