Make a Real Difference One Meal at a Time

At Borough Care, we believe every day is a chance to brighten someone's life. As a Care Home Cook, you'll play a vital stand-alone role in our care home - not just preparing meals but creating a warm and enjoyable dining experience for our residents.

About the role

This is not your average kitchen job. As a Care Home Cook at Borough Care, you will:

  • Independently prepare and serve meals to meet residents' individual dietary and nutritional needs. The main & light meals are supplied as frozen ready prepared meals which require reheating where strict HACCP controls are required.
  • Be expected to provide light breakfasts, freshly made soups & sandwiches in addition to the prepared meals.
  • Be able to use your creativity with ad hoc events and birthdays for the residents.
  • Be working independently, so you'll need to manage your time effectively throughout the shift and stay organised.
  • Maintain kitchen hygiene and ensure all food safety standards are met.
  • Be required to use an electronic system to update records.
  • Support care staff at service times with serving meals during mealtimes.
  • Be a friendly, familiar face in the home - a valued team member who residents rely on daily.
  • Be expected to maintain stock control and complete ordering for the home.

What We're Looking For:

  • Previous experience in catering, food preparation or a kitchen environment.
  • Knowledge of hygiene audit systems as well as ordering systems.
  • Previous experience with stock control.
  • Compassion, patience and a genuine interest in the wellbeing of older people.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative during long shifts.
  • Reliability and flexibility to work the 10-hour shift pattern or part-time, as needed.

The Perks:

  • 28 days holiday, with an additional day holiday for your birthday (after 1 year's service).
  • Free meals.
  • Access to My Hub, with a range of discounts for high street shops, supermarkets and restaurants.
  • Free uniforms.
  • Paid DBS check.
  • Refer a Friend Scheme - you'll get £375 once the person joins the Borough Care family.
  • Employee Assistance Programme that supports on all aspects of your lifestyle including free counselling and financial advice.
  • Long term sick payments.
  • Life Assurance cover.
  • Pension plan.
  • Fully funded training for nationally recognised qualifications.
  • Career progression opportunities.
