This is not a conventional M&E Project Manager vacancy. It is for someone who can deliver projects, develop client relationships and, over time, build and lead a profitable M&E projects business unit. Our client is an established, cash-rich engineering-led contractor with a projected turnover of approximately £15m. Following continued growth and investment, the business is now looking for someone capable of helping lead its next stage of development.
Initially, you will take responsibility for existing clients, secured opportunities and live M&E projects. You will remain close enough to delivery to retain credibility, but your longer-term value will be in developing accounts, creating opportunities and building a team beneath you. The intention is for you to progress into a Head of Projects or Business Unit Director role as the portfolio grows. That progression is the reason this position is being created.
You will be expected to:
- Take ownership of key client accounts and project opportunities
- Manage projects commercially from enquiry through to completion
- Develop repeat business and new opportunities
- Build a sustainable project pipeline
- Oversee Project Managers and Site Managers
- Recruit and develop a team as workload increases
- Take responsibility for revenue, margin and performance
- Grow an initial circa £3m business unit into something considerably larger
You will not be handed an empty desk. The company already provides established clients, infrastructure, marketing support, systems and strong financial backing. Equally, this is not a role for someone who only wants to deliver projects won by somebody else.
Relevant backgrounds could include: Senior M&E Project Manager | M&E Contracts Manager | Senior Contracts Manager | Project Director | Business Unit Manager.
You do not need to describe yourself as a salesperson. You do, however, need to be comfortable developing accounts, creating opportunities and turning strong client relationships into repeat work. This will suit someone who wants greater influence over the clients they work with, the team they build and the direction of the business — but would prefer to do that with established backing rather than starting from scratch.
