A growing main contractor delivering new build and refurbishment education projects is looking to appoint an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to support an increasing workload and a maturing commercial team.

This role has been created due to project wins and internal progression, with existing Senior QSs focused on higher-level oversight and an Assistant QS starting to take on their own smaller jobs.

The business is now looking for someone in between - a capable, hands-on QS who can connect the dots, run jobs properly, and help keep the commercial function running smoothly day to day.

Projects typically sit in the £2.5m–£3m range, with occasional larger schemes up to £7.5m–£10m. These are generally smaller sites, meaning you won’t be permanently site-based — this is a commercially focused role rather than a site-heavy one.

The Role
  • Intermediate Quantity Surveyor position within a small, experienced commercial team
  • Working across education new build and refurbishment schemes
  • Typical project values £1m–£3m, with some larger projects up to £10m
  • Running projects commercially under Senior QS oversight
  • Core duties include procurement, subcontractor management, valuations, variations, CVRs and cost reporting
  • Supporting both Senior QSs and the Assistant QS as workloads increase
  • Office-based with regular project visits (business mileage reimbursed)
What they’re looking for
  • Intermediate-level Quantity Surveyor (or a strong QS ready for that step)
  • Main contractor background preferred
  • Comfortable running smaller jobs and owning the commercial process
  • Sound understanding of JCT contracts and core QS duties
  • Organised, reliable, and commercially switched-on
  • Someone who adds structure and stability rather than needing constant direction
  • Happy working across multiple projects rather than being tied to one large site
