Skilled Machinist

Reports To: Production Team Manager

Site Location: BorgWarner Ltd, Roydsdale Way, Euroway Industrial Estate, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD4 6SE (refer to T&C’s for location description and travel requirements)

Hours: 36.16 Hours (hours may vary as required for the business)

Days of Work: Monday to Friday, some weekend and Bank Holiday work may be required

Shift: 3 Shift Rotating (Days, Middles, Nights)

Overall Purpose: To set, for yourself and others, and to operate production equipment within the designated unit/cell, with the close liaison and direction of shift leaders

Key Responsibilities

  • Skilled Machinist
  • Ensure accurate and timely setting of production equipment for both yourself and others.
  • Operate machine tools as part of the cell team to achieve delivery requirements.
  • Report tooling problems to shift leaders or other relevant parties in a timely manner.
  • Ensure successful operation of production equipment to obtain the optimum efficiencies during production.
  • Consistent adherence to quality standards.
  • Adherence to cleanliness and functionality of the cell/unit in line with 5S and TPM guidelines.
  • Promote a greater level of working awareness with regards to quality standards and overall professionalism and work ethic.
  • Support Quality Engineers to investigate, collate and report on reducing scrap and rework within the cells.
  • Help Manufacturing Engineers and Maintenance to improve cell functions.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineers to maximize overall operational performance.
  • Assist with the development of Apprentices in accordance with the relevant training program.
  • Maintain high levels of positivity, professionalism and a positive work ethic.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Engineering Apprentice trained to national standard or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years machining experience in the relevant working nit, or two years in similar operating environments.
  • CNC machining experience preferred.
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate good organisational and setting skills
  • Ability to give tutoring to colleagues and apprentices who pass through the cell/unit.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of professionalism and a positive work ethic.

Working Environment Controlled factory environment, with some Health & Safety risks. PPE will be required to be worn.

Any other reasonable duty as may be assigned that is consistent with the nature of the job and its level of responsibility.
