Role Description
The Sonic Driller role is a full-time, on-site position based in the City of Peterborough. The Sonic Driller will operate sonic drilling rigs and associated heavy equipment to carry out ground investigations, sampling, and borehole installation across a variety of sites. Daily responsibilities include setting up and dismantling rigs, conducting drilling operations in line with project specifications and safety standards, and performing routine inspections and basic maintenance of equipment. The role also involves accurate completion of drilling logs, sample records, and site reports, as well as communicating effectively with site supervisors, engineers, and other team members to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and to quality requirements. The Sonic Driller will follow all relevant health, safety, and environmental procedures and support continuous improvement in drilling methods and site practices.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong skills in Heavy Equipment operation, including safe handling of drilling rigs and related machinery.
- Candidates should possess solid Drilling experience, with a focus on sonic drilling techniques and general ground investigation practices.
- Candidates should possess knowledge of Directional Drilling where applicable to project requirements and subsurface conditions.
- Candidates should possess proficiency in Inspection of drilling equipment, boreholes, and site conditions to maintain safety and quality standards.
- Candidates should possess familiarity with Oil & Gas or similar drilling environments, or transferable experience from geotechnical, construction, or civil engineering sectors.
- Relevant certifications in drilling operations, heavy plant operation, or health and safety (e.g., CSCS or equivalent) are beneficial.
- Ability to read and follow technical drawings, method statements, and risk assessments, with strong attention to detail.
- Good physical fitness, willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions, and readiness to travel to different sites as required.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to safe working practices and continuous learning.
- A valid driver’s license and eligibility to work in the UK are required.
