We are looking for a commercially aware and innovative Technical Manager to join our Continuous Improvement & Technical Department and lead the development and implementation of high-quality Food Safety standards.
You are a confident technical leader with a deep understanding of food safety legislation, quality systems and regulatory compliance. You bring a methodical, detail-focused approach, combined with strong leadership skills and the ability to influence stakeholders, embed high standards and drive continuous improvement across a fast‐paced food manufacturing environment.
Reporting to the Head of Technical, the Technical Manager is responsible for ensuring site‐wide compliance with food safety legislation, regulatory requirements and relevant accreditations. The role leads the creation, implementation and continual improvement of the site Food Safety and Quality Management Systems (QMS), ensuring policies and procedures are risk‐focused, legally compliant and effective. You will work closely with Operations, Procurement, Marketing, Sales and external partners including suppliers, service providers and governing bodies.
You will act as the site technical authority, supporting operational performance while protecting product integrity, consumer safety, and brand reputation.
You will lead a strong culture of food safety and quality compliance across the site, ensuring standards are embedded, understood and continuously improved. Key accountabilities include:
- Creating and implementing strategies to ensure compliance with food safety legislation and accreditation standards.
- Leading HACCP, TACCP and VACCP processes to identify hazards and implement effective controls.
- Driving targeted improvement plans informed by KPI and performance data.
- Owning the Quality Management System, including supplier approval, specifications, labelling compliance, traceability, non‐conformance and consumer complaints.
- Managing internal and third‐party audits, ensuring all findings are addressed effectively.
- Managing external technical services such as pest control, microbiological testing and calibration.
- Ensuring new and existing product developments are legally compliant and do not compromise manufacturing integrity.
- Coaching, mentoring and developing members of the technical team.
Degree in Food Science or a food‐related discipline. Strong ability to interpret and apply food legislation, regulations, and customer codes of practice. In-depth knowledge of HACCP, food hygiene legislation, and food manufacturing standards. Lead Auditor certification. Strong understanding of TACCP and VACCP. Excellent leadership, problem‐solving, and root cause analysis skills. Methodical, organised and results‐focused approach. Confident decision maker with strong ownership mindset. IOSH Managing Safely training is desirable.
