About The Role: As a Food Technologist at Border Biscuits, you will be responsible for ensuring that all products are safe, legal, and of high quality, in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS), assuring that both established and new products meet defined specifications. You will be part of a dynamic team that values continuous improvement. While the role operates from Monday to Friday dayshift, flexibility will be required to support the business, for example for key projects.

What will the role involve?

  • Food Safety & HACCP: Act as a key member of the site’s HACCP team, holding joint responsibility for maintaining and advancing food safety systems in line with legal and industry requirements.
  • Food Safety & Quality Culture: Support the implementation of site‐wide food safety and quality culture objectives, working collaboratively with the Operations Management Team.
  • Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement: Collate, analyse, and trend departmental performance data (e.g. KPIs/PIs), communicating results effectively and leading root cause investigations to address out‐of‐specification results.
  • Quality Management System (QMS): Execute defined responsibilities within the QMS, including (but not limited to): Supplier and specification approval, Product labelling and traceability, Generation and maintenance of finished product specifications, Conducting internal audits, Facilitating consumer product panels.
  • Technical Services Coordination: Oversee coordination of key technical services such as: Third‐party audits, Pest control management, External laboratory testing, Calibration of equipment. Ensure all services support site food safety and quality objectives.
  • Product Quality Standards: Define, maintain, and enhance product quality standards and factory specifications, ensuring alignment with customer expectations and regulatory requirements.
  • Food Safety & Quality Advocacy: Act as a champion for food safety and quality, using internal communication channels to promote best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Customer & Supplier Information Management: Respond to customer and supplier information requests, including the completion of supplier self‐assessment questionnaires and the provision of product specifications.
  • Trial Management: Manage production trials, ensuring all activities are conducted safely, have a clearly defined purpose, are thoroughly documented, and that outcomes are appropriately actioned.

Knowledge & Experience Required: Experience in similar role with manufacturer of baked goods (ideally biscuits). Educated to minimum HNC/HND, preferably in food technology or related discipline. Intermediate Food Hygiene, Internal Auditor Training, Firm understanding of food safety and quality management systems. Expert IT skills, such as Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Excel.

Desirable: Understanding of secondary processing of chocolate. Awareness of relevant UK legislation, technical and industry codes of practice.
