We’re excited to offer a fantastic opportunity to join our Professional Learning & Development Team as a Learning and Development Specialist for Optometry Programmes at Boots in Nottingham. If you’re passionate about supporting Pre-registration and CLiP colleagues on their journey to becoming confident, capable Optometrists, and you’re motivated by shaping the future of our profession, this is the role for you!
As part of our team of Pre-registration Specialists, you’ll guide colleagues from Undergraduate Optometry Students through to fully qualified Optometrists. You will support their development needs, ensure they progress successfully through key programmes, and champion their experience every step of the way. This role combines in-store visits with virtual delivery and remote support, allowing you to make a real impact across the North and South.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspire, support, and develop Pre-registration/CLiP Students, Supervisors, and Managers, building the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to shape the next generation of Optometrists at Boots Opticians.
- Co-create engaging, diverse learning materials with clear objectives and robust evaluation measures.
- Deliver high-quality clinical and commercial training workshops across a range of programmes (both virtually and face-to-face).
- Own the progress of your Pre-registration cohort, ensuring timely achievement of programme milestones and proactively managing any challenges with key stakeholders.
- Stay up to date with guidance from the GOC, College of Optometrists, relevant Universities, and other regulatory bodies, ensuring all requirements are fully met.

- A creative problem solver with a passion for delivering exceptional support for our Pre-registration colleagues, balancing innovation with the demands of a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in supervising Pre-registration colleagues within the last three years, committed to developing the Optometrists of the future.
- Confidence in navigating both clinical and commercial priorities.
- Detail-oriented, organised, and proactive.
- An excellent communicator who builds strong relationships and networks with ease.

- Experience in creating learning materials or training programmes.
- Familiarity with the latest developments in Optometry education and practice.
