Overview
The In-Store Creative Design Manager is responsible for creating engaging, functional and brand aligned retail environments that enhance the customer experience and drive commercial performance by format. The role translates brand strategy and customer insight into physical spaces, ensuring consistency across formats, whilst also considering local market needs.
Role Responsibilities
- Translating brand identity and guidelines into design solutions.
- Translation of creative intents into communication, merchandising, layout and design development briefs.
- Review of creative design drawings, also including plans, elevations, fixtures and fittings.
- Collaborating with both internal and external resources to deliver practical design within budget.
- Support the trial and rollout of store concepts across multiple locations, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Create solutions that optimise customer flow, dwell time and product presentation.
- Balance creative ambition with operational, commercial and accessibility requirements.
- Use customer insights, sales data to inform design improvements.
- Present design concepts clearly and confidently to senior stakeholders.
- Management of external agencies.
- Maintain and evolve retail design guidelines.
- Stay up to date with retail trends, materials, sustainability practices and emerging technologies.
- Identify opportunities to innovate store formats and customer experience.
- Manage critical paths and costs in line with project plans and managing stakeholders in line with expectations.
What you'll need to have
- Proven experience in retail, commercial or spatial design.
- Strong conceptual design ability and visual communication skills.
- Experience in the creative design process, whilst managing a concept from creative to reality.
- The ability to express ideas through both written and oral communication to either individuals or groups.
- Able to manage complex projects independently.
- Have an understanding of retail operations, customer journeys and visual merchandising principles.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- A strong people leader, able to motivate and lead a diverse team with continuous improvement at its heart.
- Ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships cross-functionally with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Able to embrace, endorse and positively react to change.
- Confident in expressing ideas, opinions and solutions with a variety of senior stakeholders, and the ability to listen and understand the views of others.
- Ability to manage and lead external agencies and brands, with experience in project management.
- Awareness of customer, market changes and industry best practice.
