We're seeking an experienced and driven Engineering Project Leader with a strong background in automation systems to join our growing team. Based in Nottingham, this role will lead engineering and automation projects across the UK, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and within budget. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, you'll coordinate complex, high-value automation projects—often involving Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS)—and work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, from internal teams and suppliers to clients and contractors.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end project delivery, from design through to installation, commissioning, and handover.
  • Manage multiple automation projects simultaneously, ensuring compliance with scope, budget, and timescales.
  • Deliver projects safely and efficiently within live operational environments, minimising disruption to client operations.
  • Work closely with clients, subcontractors, and internal departments to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Develop project plans, risk assessments, and budgets in line with company procedures.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant CDM regulations, health & safety standards, and company policies.
  • Coordinate on-site activities and oversee installation teams, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
  • Prepare project documentation, progress reports, and financial updates.

What you'll need to have (our must-haves)

  • Proven experience in project leadership within an automation or engineering environment.
  • Experience delivering complex engineering projects in live operational environments.
  • Strong understanding of automated materials handling systems; ASRS experience highly advantageous.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tight deadlines and complex budgets.
  • Working knowledge of CDM regulations and possession of SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme) desirable.
  • PRINCE2 or other formal project management qualification advantageous.
  • LOLER awareness.
  • An appreciation for automation utilities.
  • Willingness to travel nationally, including overnight stays.
  • Full UK driving licence.
