We're looking for a creative, outcomes-driven Assistant Communications Manager to shape how Boots shows up in wellness - helping to secure high-quality media and creator coverage that supports customer confidence, while delivering engaging internal communications that keep colleagues connected.
Working as part of the Internal Communications team, you will combine external storytelling with thoughtful colleague-focused content. You'll work closely with teams across the business to ensure our stories are consistent, accurate and aligned to our wider strategic priorities.
Key responsibilities- Support the development and execution of integrated communication plans across external and internal channels that align with Boots strategic priorities, customer promises, colleague understanding and advocacy of our growing wellness proposition.
- Create, draft and sell in news stories to media that result in positive editorial coverage for Boots.
- Develop engaging, high-quality content and assets to support wellness storytelling for both internal purposes through internal articles, videos, toolkits and guides and external purposes through press releases, media alerts, infographics and editorial content.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, influencers and key stakeholders to secure high-quality media coverage.
- Support stakeholder relationships both internally and externally with journalists and influencers to strengthen our reputation as a trusted voice in wellness.
- Respond to incoming media enquiries, including coordinating product samples and information requests.
- Support the Internal Communications team with core channel delivery as needed, including weekly newsletters, The Edit/Healthcare Edit/Huddle Edit, Boots Intranet, Viva Engage posts and reporting.
- Support the organisation and delivery of internal and external events, wellness product launches and press briefings.
- Work collaboratively with marketing, social, digital, category, and our internal comms and content teams to ensure consistent content creation and storytelling and seamless cross channel activation.
- Monitor performance across external and internal channels. This includes tracking coverage and results and reporting on impact to make recommendations for future improvement.
- Stay up to date with wellness trends, competitor activity and cultural conversations/relevant news to inform proactive storytelling, news angles and reactive opportunities.
- Act as a trusted advisor to teams across the business, providing advice on internal and external communications, and developing and embedding a consistent narrative and tone of voice.
- Degree in PR, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience in PR and internal communications, ideally within healthcare retail or FMCG sectors.
- Clear communicator, with the ability to draft, edit and adapt content for different audiences at pace and to a high standard.
- Innovative thinker with a passion for storytelling, able to translate complex or sensitive information into clear, engaging and accessible content for colleagues and customers.
- You can engage with media, creators and internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong proficiency in day-to-day communication tools (e.g. Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, Viva Engage).
- Confidence using or learning tools such as Poppulo, basic web editing and simple video or design tools, with a focus on producing clear, high-quality content rather than technical complexity.
- Boots Retirement Savings Plan.
- Discretionary annual bonus.
- Generous employee discounts.
- Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption leave pay and gift card for anyone expecting or adopting a child.
- Flexible benefits scheme including option to buy additional holiday, discounted gym membership, life assurance, activity passes and much more.
