Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Clinical Governance Lead to join Boots Digital Health and provide operational leadership for clinical governance across Boots Online Doctor.
Reporting to the Medical Director, you will play a key role in ensuring our clinical services are safe, effective, compliant and continuously improving. You will lead and develop our clinical governance framework across a growing portfolio of regulated digital healthcare services, with oversight of clinical risk, incident management, audit, quality improvement, policy and regulatory assurance.
You will work closely with clinical, operational, product and leadership teams, providing expert governance advice, constructive challenge and assurance. This is an opportunity to help shape clinical governance within an innovative and rapidly developing digital healthcare organisation, ensuring patient safety remains central to how we develop and deliver our services.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and continuously develop the clinical governance framework across Boots Online Doctor.
• Lead clinical incident management, including Significant Event Analysis, investigation, organisational learning and governance actions.
• Develop and oversee the annual clinical audit programme across our clinical services.
• Maintain oversight of clinical risks, ensuring risks are appropriately identified, assessed, mitigated and escalated.
• Produce governance reports and assurance for senior leadership and relevant governance committees.
• Provide clinical governance oversight for the development and launch of new clinical services.
• Review clinical policies, SOPs and patient pathways to ensure they remain current, evidence based and compliant.
• Support regulatory inspections, responses and submissions, including engagement with the CQC and other relevant healthcare regulators.
• Provide expert advice to senior leaders on clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement and regulatory compliance.
• Work closely with Product, Engineering and Operations teams to support the safe delivery of digital healthcare.
• Provide governance oversight for clinical AI and digital decision support tools where applicable.
• Develop meaningful governance metrics and quality indicators to provide assurance about clinical service performance.
• Promote a culture of openness, learning, patient safety and continuous improvement.
What you’ll need to have:
• Current professional registration as a healthcare professional.
• Extensive experience in clinical governance and patient safety.
• Experience working within a regulated healthcare environment.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare regulation and clinical governance principles.
• Experience leading or supporting investigations into clinical incidents and identifying organisational learning.
• Experience developing clinical governance frameworks, quality systems or audit programmes.
• Experience working within healthcare regulations and supporting regulatory inspection readiness.
• Experience producing governance reports and assurance for senior leaders.
• Strong analytical and critical appraisal skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex clinical and governance issues clearly.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence senior leaders and multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent organisational and project management skills.
• Sound professional judgement, integrity and the ability to provide independent and objective challenge.
• A strong commitment to patient safety, openness and continuous improvement.
• The ability to work effectively within a complex and rapidly changing healthcare environment.
