An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Business Analyst, as a member of the Retail & International team within Boots IT. Reporting to a Lead Business Analyst, you will be responsible for working with members of the Retail Operations function and the wider organisation to jointly define with them the high‑level scope, objectives and requirements for some major upcoming projects in those areas.

Key responsibilities:

  • Engaging with business stakeholders across retail operations, stores and the wider business to capture clear requirements and translate this into structured documentation such as user stories, BRD's, use cases and acceptance criteria.
  • Facilitate workshops, interviews, and discovery sessions to identify pain points, business requirements and opportunities.
  • Mapping existing "as‑is" to improve bottlenecks and opportunities for improvements across operations, customer journeys, back‑office workflows and supporting systems.
  • Designing optimised "to‑be" processes to enhance efficiency, compliance and customer experience.
  • Working closely with technical teams to ensure process designs integrate effectively with retail systems such as POS, ERP, Inventory management, Ecommerce platforms and Customer service tools.
  • Using modelling techniques to visualise and communicate processes to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Perform data analysis and transitioning large data sets into actionable insights to inform decision making processes.
  • Act as the bridge between the business and technology teams to ensure shared understanding and smooth delivery.
  • Communicate complex ideas in a clear and accessible way, tailoring messages to different audiences including senior leaders, on‑the‑ground staff and technical specialists.

What you’ll need to have (our must‑haves):

  • A natural curiosity and drive to really want to understand the business process to which the solution is to be applied.
  • Can get to the real nub of the issue, beyond how people first describe the problem.
  • Comfortable to challenge the perceived wisdom and request evidence (facts and data) to support what they are being told.
  • A track record of bringing clarity of thought to complex and potentially initially vague situations.
  • Good ability to grow professional work relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Evidence of over five years of experience of using industry best practise BA tools and techniques.
  • A good all‑round appreciation of how IT is leveraged in successful UK Retail companies.

It would be great if you also have:

  • An understanding of retail operations, POS systems, e‑commerce, or customer experience journeys.
  • Experience in leading the pre‑delivery requirements stage of a project that is subsequently delivered by a third‑party software house.
  • Experience working within Agile and Waterfall environments, understanding how the BA role differs across methodologies.
  • Familiarity with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, BPMN, UML.
  • Experience supporting QA activities, including reviewing test cases and participating in UAT.

Rewards designed for you:

  • Boots Retirement Savings Plan
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Generous employee discounts
  • Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption leave pay and gift card for anyone expecting or adopting a child
  • Flexible benefits scheme including option to buy additional holiday, discounted gym membership, life assurance, activity passes and much more.
  • Access to free, 24/7 counselling and support through TELUS Health, our Employee Assistance Programme.
