We are looking for an Assistant Engineering Manager to join our Store Service Centre in Nottingham. This role plays a critical role in supporting the engineering team by ensuring the successful execution of projects, maintaining high technical standards, and driving continuous improvement. This role bridges the gap between hands-on engineering work and managerial oversight, fostering a high-performance team environment while aligning engineering efforts with business objectives.
- Engineering Team Leadership – Support, mentor, and guide engineers to ensure project success and professional development.
- Project Execution & Delivery – Oversee engineering projects, ensuring they meet deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Continuous Improvement – Lead the overall site continuous improvement agenda to identify, develop, and implement process improvements using Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to enhance efficiency, reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Technical Oversight – Ensure engineering designs, plans, and solutions meet industry standards and company requirements.
- Stakeholder Collaboration – Work closely with the wider engineering function and cross-functional teams to align engineering efforts with operational and business objectives.
- Risk & Issue Management – Proactively identify and mitigate risks to prevent project delays or technical failures.
- Performance Monitoring – Track individual and team performance, providing constructive feedback and coaching.
- Compliance & Safety Management – Ensure all engineering activities adhere to health, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Resource Planning & Allocation – Assist in workforce planning, ensuring the right skills are available for day-to-day tasks & projects.
- Continuous Learning & Development – Encourage technical skill development and upskilling among engineers.
- Growth – Provide like-for-like service for the Engineering manager and Maintenance manager roles for periods of holiday/absence.
What you’ll need to have:
- Engineering Expertise - Substantial operational engineering experience in an automated environment (electrical, mechanical, PLC, IT).
- Project Management – Ability to oversee multiple projects, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- People Management – Supervises and supports engineers, fostering a productive work environment.
- Process Optimisation – Identifies inefficiencies and implements improvements in engineering workflows.
- Risk Management – Anticipates and mitigates potential issues in engineering projects.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Works with leadership, clients, and other departments to align engineering goals with business objectives.
- Performance Monitoring – Tracks team performance and provides feedback to drive continuous improvement.
- Compliance & Safety Awareness – Ensures engineering practices align with safety standards, regulations, and company policies.
- Systems - Confident on basic IT systems such as Excel, Teams, Power BI, Sharepoint.
