A new opportunity has arisen for a Junior Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering team on a long term client's site in Montrose, Angus.

Please note that we can only consider candidates who are currently based in the UK.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferable but not essential for this role).
  • Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (minimum qualification).

Details of Role:

As a member of our projects engineering team, we are looking for a talented individual with a wide range of professional skills. The role will be to work on multiple, concurrent projects initially alongside a Senior Engineer to ensure deadlines and design deliverables are achieved. There will be client interface; a wide degree of electrical technical knowledge and experience in an industrial/commercial environment would be beneficial (but not essential). Ideally, candidates will possess the necessary competencies and behaviours to be able to work with minimum supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support a Senior Engineer with design and co-ordination of electrical project deliverables.
  • Develop knowledge and experience of electrical design deliverables and project execution.
  • Manage the approvals of electrical project documentation.

Experience Required (but not essential):

  • A knowledge of design and construction of low voltage electrical systems, switchgear and plant.
  • A knowledge of Hazardous Area classification.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Atex certification and IP ratings.
  • An appreciation of LV design including fault levels, protection grading, short circuits, surge protection, diversity, discrimination and co-ordination.
  • An understanding of Load schedules, SLDs, Cable schedules and drive schedules.
  • A knowledge of containment systems, cable selection and sizing for design loads and protection requirements.
  • Experience with motor starters, DOL, star/delta, forward/reverse, VSD and soft starts.
  • VSD experience including harmonics, chokes and EMC filter selection.
  • Trace heating, lighting, UPS systems, ESD systems and Fire alarm systems.
  • Interface with PLC and DCS systems both hardwired and communications connected.

Excellent communication skills and a track record of the development of good working relationships with all levels of an organisation. Working knowledge of UK legislation and standard practices affecting all aspects of electrical engineering. Technical understanding of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Trimble (Amtech).
