We’re looking for a Ruby Tech Lead to take ownership of backend engineering across a high-impact SaaS platform operating in real-time environments. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can drive delivery, improve system reliability and scale backend capability as demand grows. You’ll work closely with engineering, product and external stakeholders to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery while shaping the evolution of a complex Rails-based platform.
The Role
- You’ll own backend delivery across key product areas, balancing hands-on development with technical leadership responsibility.
- Acting as a point of escalation, you’ll guide architecture, improve system performance and help the wider team deliver with speed and confidence.
This role is hybrid, with 2 days per week onsite in London.
What You’ll Do
- Own backend architecture and technical direction within a Rails monolith.
- Drive delivery across features from scoping through to production.
- Act as a technical escalation point across the application stack.
- Improve performance, reliability and maintainability of core systems.
- Lead estimation, planning and execution of engineering work.
- Mentor engineers and support team development.
- Collaborate with product and stakeholders to align delivery with business goals.
Skills & Toolkit
- Strong Ruby on Rails experience in production environments.
- Experience with RESTful API design and development.
- PostgreSQL, Redis and Sidekiq.
- AWS-based infrastructure.
- Docker and containerised environments.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving capability.

Working Model
