Team description

The Revenue Management team for our Cars Business Unit is responsible for driving global top- and bottom line P&L performance, in our complex operating model that include both agency, retail and principal supplier and partnership agreements. This is achieved through the management of complex pricing models for Cars, Insurance and Ancillaries, leading promotional activities globally, identifying and fixing revenue leakage and ensuring an optimised ranking for customers. Additionally, we take the commercial lead in identifying and defining new Revenue Levers to be used to increase revenue generation.

This is all done in close collaboration with a broad range of internal stakeholders, from Supply Management, Product, Engineering, Analytics and Data Science teams, with whom we partner to build out the Revenue Management toolkit and maximise monetisation opportunities

Role Overview

Responsible for owning and executing the commercial strategy for a designated area of responsibility. Deliver continued development of the pillars of Revenue Management (Pricing, Ranking, Promotions, Revenue Integrity, New Revenues Streams) which are our foundations to enhance our capabilities to optimise the total revenue of car, insurance and ancillaries. Using cutting-edge Machine Learning practices and bespoke tailored commercial strategies, ensure optimum car and insurance prices, promotions and products are implemented and presented to all customers to maximise our revenue returns. Own the protection of our bottom line finances through the detection of revenue leakages and be the revenue integrity champion across the wider business. Responsible for inspiring a culture of high performance and delivering outstanding commercial results. Strong focus on day-to-day trading performance and thorough root-cause analysis. Be a key subject matter expert within Revenue Management (e.g. Promotions, Insurance, Pricing).

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Responsible for delivering our commercial targets and optimising revenue for a designated area of scope (Pricing, Promotions, Insurance etc). Optimise car and insurance margins to deliver top and bottom line P&L targets. Responsible for delivery of Booking.com\’s global strategy into a locally relevant plan. Deliver quantity and quality reports on results and performance for information support to Booking.com.
  • Ensuring best in class business reviews with the Leadership team to deliver on company targets. Interrogate data from multiple departments across the business, collating the information into material suitable for senior consumption and decision making.
  • Driving a high performance culture within the Revenue Management team. Steers and directs team members to support the delivery of both organizational and individual objectives. Ensures collaboration with other channels within the organisation to achieve targets and KPIs.
  • Responsible for the cost of their operations through pricing experimentation. Support enhancements to our machine learning model to deliver financial gains in price optimization. Manages team to deliver Booking.com\’s standards of pricing compliance.
  • Ranking – Support commercial ranking & display strategy to deliver the right offer at the right time to maximise conversion and profitability. Support commercial ad banners and supplier-funded activity.
  • Responsible for designing and casing new customer facing products and leads on new commercial initiatives in close collaboration with Product and other key internal stakeholders. Supports development and prioritisation of roadmaps with internal stakeholders.
  • Responsible for investigating and determining instances of revenue leakage across the entire Cars vertical. Leads the conversation with the Management Team to size and prioritise the resolution of these issues. Supports cross-departmental development fixes and roadmaps.
  • Proposition Development – Support the commercial product offering to deliver profitability and customer experience through analysis of customer behaviour. Propose and case new product concepts to the management team, with the aim of developing products that improve the experience for the customer.
  • Distribution Channel Strategy – Support commercial discussions with partnerships teams to deliver optimal distribution channel strategies by understanding the different requirements and challenges of our customers through different booking channels.
  • Responsible for optimizing revenue for regions/areas of scope that generate approximately 25% of the total global car rental, insurance and ancillaries revenue.
  • Deliver commercial strategy for insurance through pricing analysis to improve attach rate and profitability of insurance to deliver our financial targets. Coordinate alongside the Booking.com Insurance team contracting and managing external insurance partners.
  • Responsible for conversations with Marketing, Supply Management and Product & Engineering to develop improved promotional capabilities. Responsible for the analysis of promotional activity and use the learnings to determine the optimum future strategy.
  • Lead the tracking of market data to ensure continued visibility of our pricing position in an ever-shifting dynamic marketplace. Manage conversations with external parties to ensure data integrity. Liaise with internal Analytics teams to produce clear summaries.

Role Qualifications and Requirements

  • Advanced revenue management experience with a proven track record of creating and implementing effective commercial strategies.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical and analytical topics clearly and concisely to all levels
  • Advanced Analytical skills and report building (SQl, Hadoop, Python, etc)
  • Proven ability to get to the root cause of business underperformance through analysis, logic and rigorous problem-solving
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Experience of presenting to and influencing C-level stakeholders
  • Experience of collaborating with Data Scientists/Analysts and Product Owners
  • Brings energy and structure to problem-solving
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Level of education: bachelor degree or equivalent.
