About the role
We have an incredible opportunity as a Risk & Resilience Manager to support Booker identify, assess and manage material risks, protect critical business services and operations, and strengthen the organisation’s ability to respond to and recover from disruption. This is a brand new role which will support the delivery, embedding and continuous improvement of risk management and business resilience capabilities, with a particular focus on critical outcomes, business continuity and operational resilience. Working closely with senior Booker stakeholders you would ensure material risks are identified, understood and managed effectively. This is a hands‑on role, combining strong business partnering with practical delivery to support governance and regulatory expectations, while helping the business operate confidently within risk appetite and deliver against strategic and commercial objectives.
You will be responsible for:
- Act as a trusted risk and resilience business partner to a portfolio of Booker stakeholders.
- Maintain, review and challenge risk registers, ensuring risks, controls, impacts and mitigation actions are clearly articulated and actively managed.
- Facilitate risk discussions, workshops and deep dives to support practical, risk‑informed decision‑making.
- Produce high‑quality risk reporting, dashboards and papers for governance forums, senior management and audit.
- Support the delivery and ongoing maturity of Booker's business resilience programme, including identification of critical outcomes and services.
- Support the development, maintenance and testing of business continuity, crisis management and incident response arrangements.
- Design and facilitate scenario testing and resilience exercises, tracking lessons learned and remediation actions.
- Support the design and delivery of the Booker Critical Outcomes programme (TRADE, BUY, MOVE, PAY).
- Work with stakeholders to define critical outcomes, important business services, priority processes, dependencies and impact tolerances.
- Support governance, roadmap development and executive reporting for risk and resilience programmes.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships and help embed a pragmatic, positive risk and resilience culture.
- Provide risk and resilience input into change initiatives, including business impact assessments and go‑live readiness.
- Identify opportunities to improve risk and resilience frameworks, processes, reporting and tooling.
- Track actions arising from risk reviews, incidents, exercises and assurance activity to support timely remediation and continuous improvement.
- Stay informed on UK regulatory expectations and industry developments.
You will need:
Technical / Professional (Essential)
- Experience in risk management, operational resilience, business resilience, business continuity or a related governance/assurance role.
- Strong understanding of enterprise risk frameworks and their practical application in a commercial environment.
- Experience supporting resilience programmes, business continuity planning and scenario testing or exercise.
- Ability to produce clear, high‑quality risk reporting, dashboards and papers for governance forums and senior stakeholders.
- Knowledge of UK regulatory and governance expectations relating to risk, resilience and business continuity.
Technical / Professional (Desirable)
- Ability to facilitate workshops and engage stakeholders at different levels.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complexity into practical actions.
- Experience influencing and challenging constructively without direct authority.
- Experience supporting change initiatives, impact assessments or go‑live readiness.
- Experience in retail, logistics, supply chain, distribution or other operational environments.
- Familiarity with critical outcomes / important business services concepts.
- Relevant qualification or certification in risk, business continuity or resilience.
