About the role:
At Booker, part of the Tesco Group, we're proud to serve independent retailers, caterers and small businesses across the UK. Our technology keeps things moving – powering critical systems, integrations and services that support our customers every day. We're looking for a Systems Engineer (APIs) to join our team. If you enjoy bringing structure to complex delivery, working across teams, and helping turn ideas into reality, this could be the role for you.
We're committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels welcome and able to be themselves – whatever your background, experience or perspective. As a Systems Engineer, you'll coordinate and support the delivery of change across business‑critical systems, APIs and integrations. You'll work closely with Technology Product Managers and stakeholders to translate business priorities into clear, structured delivery plans. You'll play a key role in ensuring work is planned, tracked, tested and delivered in a consistent and controlled way – helping teams stay aligned, resolve challenges, and deliver successful outcomes. You'll also support API and integration delivery, including work across our MuleSoft platform.
You will be responsible for:
- Translating business requirements into clear delivery specifications for development teams.
- Coordinating delivery activity across projects, ensuring plans, milestones and dependencies are understood and managed.
- Working with internal teams and external partners to clarify requirements and remove blockers.
- Supporting planning, sequencing and prioritisation across multiple initiatives.
- Preparing and maintaining delivery documentation including plans, RAID logs and status updates.
- Providing clear, regular communication on progress, risks and outcomes.
- Supporting meetings, workshops and governance forums, ensuring actions are captured and followed through.
- Coordinating and supporting testing activity, including planning, defect tracking and business validation.
- Supporting implementation, release readiness and post‑delivery follow‑up.
- Ensuring delivery aligns with governance, change control, security and audit standards.
- Contributing to continuous improvement of delivery processes, documentation and ways of working.
You will need:
- Experience in a systems, delivery, technical coordination or similar IT role.
- Strong ability to translate business requirements into structured delivery outputs.
- Experience coordinating work across multiple teams, stakeholders and suppliers.
- Understanding of delivery governance, testing and controlled implementation practices.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with confidence working across technical and non‑technical teams.
- Experience producing structured documentation such as plans, reports, and tracking logs.
- A proactive, detail‑oriented approach with strong ownership and follow‑through.
It's a bonus if you have:
- Experience working with APIs, integrations or enterprise systems.
- Familiarity with MuleSoft or similar integration platforms.
- Experience in retail, wholesale or other complex operational environments.
