About the role

At Booker, we’re building secure, reliable technology that helps our colleagues serve customers better every day. We believe great things happen when everyone feels welcome, supported and able to be themselves at work. As a Systems Engineer I in the Booker Technology Infrastructure team, you’ll play an important part in strengthening the security of our core IT systems and supporting the evolution of our technology security framework. You’ll work closely with a Systems Engineer II and collaborate with a mix of internal colleagues and trusted third-party partners. Together, you’ll help protect our platforms by using industry-leading security tools and delivering security-focused improvement projects. This role offers a balance of hands-on engineering and structured delivery.

You’ll contribute to onboarding SaaS systems into our SSO identity platform, supporting new teams, third parties and systems onto our PAM solution, and keeping our infrastructure diagrams, asset inventory and security evidence up to date ahead of regular assessments. You’ll also help maintain service level reporting, including Disaster Recovery and Total Loss Recovery testing, and build strong relationships with stakeholders to identify and embed continuous improvements.

You will be responsible for:

  • Operations & maintenance: Help ensure systems in your scope are secure, resilient, well-maintained and performing at their best.
  • Security & compliance: Support implementation of security standards, protect data, and maintain the integrity of our platforms.
  • Project delivery: Assist with planning, managing and delivering infrastructure upgrades and new implementations.
  • Incident & change management: Support effective problem resolution, minimise disruption, and follow clear, standardised change processes.
  • Due diligence: Work within agreed budgets while keeping aligned to Booker’s business priorities.
  • Documentation & reporting: Maintain clear, accurate documentation and contribute to Total Loss Recovery evidence packs and reporting.

You will need:

  • A good understanding of infrastructure and security technologies; experience with Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, SSO Identity, PAM, VMware or Zscaler Internet/Private Access is beneficial, but not essential.
  • A strong interest in security, resilience and service stability.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to work positively with stakeholders, suppliers and teammates.
  • An organised approach, with awareness of governance, project delivery and working within budgets.
  • A calm, thoughtful mindset when solving problems.
  • The ability to balance longer-term thinking with practical, hands-on delivery.
  • A proactive approach to prioritising work, managing dependencies and measuring outcomes.
  • A genuine desire to get the right things delivered, with a focus on learning, improvement and results.
