The agency is renowned for building brands and represents bestselling and award-winning fiction authors for the commercial market

The opportunity:
Based in London, Darley Anderson & Associates is a dynamic literary agency renowned for building brands and represents bestselling and award-winning fiction authors for the commercial market. We are looking to appoint a Head of Rights maternity cover for a period of 9 months (with the possibility of a monthly renewal up to 12 months). The role would cover Rights sales in multiple territories including Germany, Netherlands, Spain and LATAM, Brazil and Portugal and Poland.

The role:

  • Negotiating deals directly and with our co-agents across assigned territories
  • Liaising regularly with clients, international publishers, co-agents and scouts
  • Managing authors’ contracts in assigned markets, sending out press material and updates, coordinating publicity trips abroad for clients
  • Evaluate manuscripts and collaborate closely with the primary agents and rights team to develop submission strategies
  • Leading the submission strategy for the team as well as creating, updating and managing submissions
  • Attending author events and overseeing our London Book Fair presence as well as other industry events.

The ideal candidate:

  • At least 5 years of experience working in rights with experience in selling rights in the above key markets
  • Knowledge of publishing trends in the UK and in overseas markets
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A proactive self-starter with a keen eye for detail
  • Thrives in a small but busy team and is able to juggle a large and varied workload
  • Able to work autonomously as well as in a team environment
  • Commercially driven

Experience and skills required:

  • Significant experience working in rights with managerial experience preferable, either at an agency or in-house at a publisher.
  • Knowledge of other languages is a plus.
  • Experience with Bradbury Philips is highly desirable
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Start date: from 1November – to be discussed
Location: hybrid, 3 days a week in our London office, 2 remote
Contract type: fixed term maternity cover 9 months (with the possibility of a monthly renewal up to 12 months)
Salary: based on experience
