Daniela Schlingmann Literary Scouting Ltd. represents leading international publishers and select British film and TV companies, identifying standout fiction, non-fiction, and children’s titles from the UK, US, and beyond for translation and adaptation.
The Role
We are looking for a senior-level publishing professional to join our adult scouting team. This is a strategic, high-impact role for someone with a deep understanding of the publishing landscape, an editorially sharp eye, and strong global relationships.While the role entails working across both adult fiction and non-fiction, deep knowledge and experience of the UK and US non-fiction markets in particular is an advantage. The candidate will have a wide range of relevant industry contacts and flexibility to liaise with UK/US partners outside standard working hours is expected.
You will help lead our fiction and non-fiction scouting for a selection of our international clients, delivering early insight into standout titles and market movements. Your insight will directly shape acquisition decisions and international publishing strategies.
Key Responsibilities
• Proactively source and assess standout titles from the UK, US, and other markets through your own network.
• Maintain and expand a strong network across editorial, rights, and agency contacts in the UK and US markets.
• Deliver timely, precise, and commercially attuned reports to tight deadlines.
• Serve as primary point of contact for a significant part of the client portfolio, offering tailored advice and knowledgeable, impactful acquisitions support.
• Line-manage other team members.
• Represent DSLS at book fairs and industry events, leading client meetings and liaising with industry contacts and reporting on market trends.
• Monitor industry developments across publishing media and social channels.
Candidate Profile
• Proven experience in publishing (scouting, rights, or editorial).
• Deep knowledge of UK and US markets and strong international market awareness.
• Established network of key industry contacts across genres and publishing territories, particularly in the UK and US.
• Confident reader and decision-maker with sharp commercial judgement and reporting skills.
• Experienced team-player with line management experience.
• Excellent communicator with client-facing experience.
• European language skills a plus.
Benefits & Details
• Salary: £40 – 45k, dependent on experience.
• 25 days annual holiday (rising to 30 after 5 years of employment), plus bank holidays.
